Colored Woodblock Multiples
4 x 4 ft, Machine cut Plywood. Hand sanded pieces painted with acrylic. Complete with a lacquer finish.
Originally a painting assignment by my instructor to replicate the work of Kandinsky and Mondrian onto linen canvas, I constructed a 4 x 4 ft structure made of recycled plywood.
The heart of the assignment was to experiment with color and form. And when I think of the utilization of color and form, the artist that comes to mind is Ikea. Their friendly color palettes and fun products from furniture to decoration are childhood memories of mine. The Ikea formula, emphasizing simplicity and playfulness, is what makes them so successful. I tried to replicate that formula in this work.
Going forward, I plan to turn this work into a coffee table with a supportive base and glass sheeting. Sketches coming soon.
